I am the all knowing deity of L00P and I am cool
L00P New Reality is an independent horror game made by Purple Void Studios. The premise is of an employee of a video game company that finds themselves involved with more than what they're paid to do. They QA test a game that's currently in development, but it seems to have become "corrupted" by something paranormal. As you play through the game, you begin to unveil more and more mysteries that surround the development build of the game, while also making sure you keep your job, as well as keep your life. One's more important than the other, but corporate may tell you otherwise.
Throughout the demo that I played, I was thoroughly impressed with the design of the game. It had a chilling digital horror feel. In the environments, things were out of place, or even just straight up missing. There's these dark and eerie colors that come off of some assets that really set the mood. Being a fan of technological horror, this game does it really well.
Gameplay wise, there is a lot of platforming, you have to hop, jump, skip and run around the map to get to certain areas and items. There's also this game mechanic of putting on a VR headset that allows you to basically enter another plan of digital existence, which opens up more pathways. You even have to quickly swap between VR Mode and regular mode to do tricky jumps, which adds onto the satisfying feel of the gameplay. There's also the use of physics. Jumping multiple times in succession actually makes you move faster, so you're encouraged to "B-Hop" to escape the main enemy of the game, known as the Warden. This use of physics is very refreshing, and it's not too hard to get used to either, definitely 50 times easier than CSGO that's for sure...
The enemy is VERY creepy and I love that. it looks like a corrupted default asset that gained sentience and it gave me some chills! It runs very fast and if you aren't fast enough, will bring your health down in the form of "Corruption". This thing also likes to mess with you too. Sometimes you'll get jumpscared when turning on the VR headset, which got me quite a few times. It's random, so you then feel a weird sense of anticipation on whenever it'll pop up again when you flip the HMD on.
Story wise, it was very creative. Lore is given to you via the overworld desktop that you go to after every "Loop". You can collect emails within the game to read, giving you more exposition on what's really going on in this universe, along with developing certain characters further beyond their presentation within the "Loops". The UI for this overlay is great too. It really feels like you're on some quirky Linux Distro and are just going through your daily emails like an employee would. There's even nice little additions like being able to access the soundtrack and play music that you've unlocked through progression, and a photo gallery with cute little stuff.
Overall, the demo was extremely fun to play through, the platforming was pretty challenging, as well as just easy enough to understand and get through with little to no problem. The characters are pretty well written, and the overall atmosphere is great! I highly recommend this game and I really can't wait for the full release to come out!
Loved the game!
